Author: Adolfsen, Per
Throughout his life, artist Per Adolfsen has embarked upon solitary nature walks in his native Denmark and beyond, capturing the sublime topographies he traverses in his sketchbook. When he returns home, the artist transmutes his sketches into larger scaled coloured pencil and graphite drawings on Hahnemühle paper. Although devoid of human figures, his landscape drawings double as self-portraits; Adolfsen recognises that just as he is shaped by the natural world, he shapes it in turn. Through moonlit rock formations, wide open roads and desolate plains, Adolfsen’s compositions evoke both passages from Thoreau and paintings by Caspar David Friedrich. 'Walk With Me' is the first ever monograph on the artist, compiling the fruits of his meditative journeys into the wild. The volume supplements abundant illustrations of Adolfsen’s recent works on paper with an essay by art critic Raphy Sarkissian.
ISBN 9798999876423. Mier Books. hb. 368 pages. 147 colour, 26 b/w ills. 33 x 25.4 cm.
