"Moira Ricci: 20.12.53 - 10.08.04" is a complex contemporary photographic research, made by Moira Ricci between 2004 and 2014. The project and the series of works created at its conclusion constitutes a form of reappropriation of the figure of the lost mother. Inspired by Roland Barthes' 'Camera Lucida', the text addresses the themes of memory, family, and peasant origins as elements of own identity. The volume includes all the 50 photographs in the series. These follow one another in a free sequence according to a simple page layout, with ample white space around the images, reminiscent of the way photographs are present to our eyes when we leaf through a family album. The images, in colour and in black and white depending on the era of the source photograph, are accompanied by small meaningful captions that recount small and big moments in the life of the mother.Overall, a very intimate artist's book but at the same time a publication that by its simplicity and visual strength engages the viewer in a story that mysteriously irretrievably belongs to them. A book capable of becoming an object of affection.
ISBN 9791254930427. Edizioni Corraini. hb. 160 pages. colour ills, b&w ills. 24 x 21.5 cm.
