Author: Cino Zucchi
The installation and exhibition designed by CZA-Cino Zucchi Architects for Freespace—the title of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition - the Venice Biennale—becomes the occasion for a series of thematic readings on the works of the Milanese architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni (1913-2016), gathered in this volume edited by Cino Zucchi and Orsina Simona Pierini. His multifunctional building complex in Corso Italia (1957-64), built in an area heavily hit by bombing during the Second World War, unfurls a complex spatial narration from the scale of the city to that of the material and the detail. The book examines this multifaceted reality through original documents from the LCD Archive, a new photography service from Cino Zucchi, specially made three-dimensional reconstructions.Cino Zucchi and Orsina Simona Pierini’s essays interpret this “silent masterpiece” in the background of the relationship between Caccia Dominioni and his city and that of his peculiar design approach, showing his significance on contemporary architectural thinking.
