Bruce Gilden first visited Haiti in 1984, during the famous Mardi Gras festivities. Fascinated by this country, he visited it numerous times until 1995, then after the earthquake of 2010. Gilden observed a poor territory, plagued by numerous natural disasters, but rich in a unique energy. In this series, Gilden travels the island and meets its inhabitants in the four corners of the country, capturing a tension imbued with an almost surreal atmosphere. With this series, published for the first time in 1996, and supplemented in this work with almost half of previously unpublished images, Bruce Gilden completes his photographic trilogy; after Lost and Found (2019) and Cherry Blossom (2021), Haiti closes the journey.
