Architect's Italian Tour, an

$120.00

Author: Corbett Lyon
This book brings together over 250 photographs taken by Corbett Lyon over a period of nearly forty years. The photographs capture portraits of many of Italy’s most celebrated buildings and places from the Italian Renaissance and Baroque. Corbett Lyon is a Melbourne-based architect, art collector, and musician with a passion for the Italian Baroque and Renaissance. Presented as an architectural and photographic tour, the publication begins with a survey of Venice’s architectural masterpieces, continues through the Veneto, Florence and Rome and concludes in Italy’s south with examples of Sicily’s spectacular Baroque masterworks. The book includes a foreword by Jaynie Anderson, Emeritus Professor of Art at the University of Melbourne and a leading expert on Italian Renaissance art and architecture. An introduction by the author re- counts how he first became acquainted with these Italian architects and their works, how his photography skills developed and how his study of these buildings continues to inspire and influence his work as an architect. Designed by Yanni Florence, the publication is presented in large format, highlighting the colours, formal compositions and strong Italian light in each of the images.Corbett Lyon is a Melbourne-based architect, art collector, and musician with a passion for photography and the architecture of the Italian Baroque and Renaissance. He studied architecture at the University of Melbourne and later at the University of Pennsyl- vania where he studied design and architectural history including studies of the work of architects Leon Battista Alberti, Andrea Palladio, Filippo Brunelleschi and Francesco Borromini. He was mentored in architectural photography by his architect father, Ronald Lyon, Australian photographers Mark Strizic and John Gollings, and American architect Steven Izenour. Lyon’s architectural work has been published and exhibited nationally and internationally including at the Venice Architecture Bien- nale. He is a founding director of Lyons Architects, an Emeritus Trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria and a Visiting Professor in Design at the University of Mel- bourne. In 2025 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his contribution to architecture, the arts and architectural education.
