Kokeshi: the wooden dolls that Takeo Takei loves (Japanese only)

Kokeshi is a typical Japanese folk-toy. There are six prefectures in the Tohoku province where they are still being made. Dolls similar in nature to Kokeshi are to be found in some countries in Europe and on the islands of the South Seas. It is not known when the first Kokeshi was made but wooden articles by a wood-lathe have been produced in the Tohoku province for more than thousand years.
